The Remarkable Ramekins at UrbanDazzle

The Wikipedia defines “ramekins” as "a small glazed ceramic or glass serving bowl used for the preparation and serving of various food dishes.” Unlike other baking dishes, they have a name of their own, which pretty much hints about their importance and need in the baking process.

Utility of Ramekins-

Cylindrical in shape and small in size, ramekins are used for baking and preparing dishes that are individual sized. A variety of dishes and little delights can be prepared using ramekins, such as potted shrimps, baked egg cups, little pudding cakes, molten chocolate cake, egg or cheese dishes, souffle, scallops, crumbles, chocolate mousse, etc.

Usually made out of materials that are heat proof, ramekins have to endure high temperatures in the baking oven and are therefore made of pyrex and porcelain. Often made of 8, 6, 4 ounce volumes, they have shallow sides.

Ramekins can be used for a variety of purposes outside the oven as well. For example, while working in the kitchen, one can use them to separate chopped vegetables while preparing a dish or serve dressings, dips, sauces, etc.

These days, ramekins have been modified to make their appearance more attractive and beautiful. Traditionally circular in shape, they now come in stars, hearts, squares and flower shapes.

Another huge benefit of using ramekins to prepare your dishes is that they help you watch your weight. If you eat from these small bowls, they help you keep a track of the portion you have had, which helps you check, control and manage your calorie intake.
